Road Opening Permit Requirements & Emergency Repair Procedures
In the event emergency repairs are required within a Borough roadway, sidewalk, or public right-of-way, the responsible party must notify the Borough prior to commencing work, when possible, or as soon as practicable after the emergency situation is identified.
As required under Englewood Cliffs Ordinance §25-08, written notification must be submitted to roadopening@englewoodcliffsnj.org and include the following information:
- Description and reason for the emergency repair
- Location of the work (address and/or specific area)
- Date and anticipated start time of work
- Estimated duration of the repair
- Contractor/company performing the work
- Contact name and phone number
Once the emergency notification has been submitted, a Road Opening Permit application must also be completed through the Borough’s online permit portal.
