Municipal Court Opening Statement

Court Proceedings

Due to restrictions beyond our control (due to the COVID-19 health crisis), the Englewood Cliffs Municipal Court is exercising all safety precautions in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives affecting the operation of the Courts. As part of this effort, the Englewood Cliffs Municipal Court is conducting Court appearances virtually via Zoom video conferencing on our first session of the month. Defendants will receive notices through the mail and/or via email with instructions on how to participate. If you have a matter that is scheduled for Court, please email EnglewoodCliffs.mc@njcourts.gov with your name, summons/ticket number, email address and phone number. If you are an Attorney entering an appearance on behalf of your client, please also include your client’s contact information as mentioned above.

Once again, with the guidance of the Supreme Court, we are allowed to conduct in-person Court sessions for specific offenses and they are held on the second date of the month.

Please Note: Any questions regarding points being assessed on your drivers license, please visit the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles

NJCOURTS.GOV

This is a wonderfully informative and user friendly website. On this site you can request Court records and forms (including the revised Plea by Mail affidavit). It will also lead you to NJMCDirect which is where you can pay your fines and Time Payments. You can also upload documents and put in “not guilty” pleas. By doing so, the Court will be alerted that you want to be scheduled for Court in order to talk to the Prosecutor with regards to a plea deal.

Please visit this site prior to contacting the Court.

Plea by Mail Affidavit

If you want to plead not guilty, on the NJCourts.gov site, go to "Self Represented" and then to "Municipal Court." If you scroll down, you will find information on how to fill out the Plea by Mail Form.

The form must be completed and sent over to the Court or uploaded in the Judiciary Electronic Document Submission (also found at NJCourts.gov) at least seven days prior to the Court date written on your ticket.
