FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR MARK M. PARK AND ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Weather Bulletin | Winter Storm Advisory
Saturday, January 24, 2026 through Monday, January 26, 2026
The Englewood Cliffs Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is actively monitoring a significant winter storm system expected to impact our region from Saturday night, January 24 through Monday afternoon, January 26. Residents are urged to review the information below and take appropriate precautions.
SNOW FORECAST AND STORM INFORMATION - According to the National Weather Service:
- Heavy snow is possible throughout the event
- Periods of sleet and freezing rain may occur
- Expected snow accumulation: 6–12 inches
- Localized totals: Over 12 inches possible in some areas
While any winter storm presents challenges, a weekend event reduces weekday commuting impacts. Residents are still urged to remain cautious and prepared.
In response to the hazardous weather forecast, a winter storm watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon.
EXPECTED IMPACTS
- Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and hazardous
- Visibility may drop below one-quarter mile during heavy snowfall
- Travel conditions may deteriorate rapidly, especially overnight and during peak snowfall periods
TRAVEL & SAFETY ADVISORY
- Strongly consider postponing all non-essential travel
- If travel is unavoidable, drive slowly and with extreme caution
- Ensure vehicles are winterized and in good working order
- Prepare a winter storm emergency kit if traveling
- Charge mobile phones and backup batteries in advance
- Test generators and emergency equipment
- DO NOT operate generators indoors or in enclosed spaces
PARKING & SNOW REMOVAL REMINDER - ALL VEHICLES MUST BE REMOVED FROM BOROUGH STREETS
- Please be reminded of the Borough ordinance requiring vehicles to be removed from all streets during snow events.
- All vehicles must be removed from Borough streets from Saturday afternoon through Monday evening.
- This allows DPW crews to safely and effectively clear roadways.
- Vehicles left on streets delay plowing operations and may be subject to enforcement (ticketing and towing).
GARBAGE COLLECTION UPDATE
- Due to the anticipated severe weather, garbage collection in the South will be SUSPENDED on Monday, January 26.
- Do not place garbage or recycling containers at the curb while collection is suspended, as this may interfere with snow removal operations.
- Garbage collection will resume on Tuesday, January 27 in the North, following the regular schedule.
POWER OUTAGE & WIRE HAZARD REPORTING:
In the event of a power outage or downed wires:
- Do NOT approach or touch any wire — assume all wires are energized.
- Report outages or hazards to PSE&G:
- Call: 1-800-436-PSEG (7734)
- Text "OUT" to 4PSEG (47734) (register first by texting "REG")
- Online: nj.pseg.com/outageandgasleaks
- Do NOT call the Police Department for non-emergency power-related inquiries.
MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS STATUS
- The Department of Public Works (DPW) has been authorized by Administration to remain on-side and on storm standby as conditions warrant.
- Additional municipal and emergency resources will be activated as needed.
- OEM, DPW, and Emergency Services (PD / FD) will continue coordinated monitoring throughout the storm.
- Due to the anticipated severity of the storm, the Englewood Cliffs Municipal Building may be closed on Monday, January 26. Any decision regarding closure will be communicated to the public by Sunday evening via the Borough website at englewoodcliffsnj.org and the myECliffs mobile app (information below).
WINTER PREPARDNESS / SAFETY TIPS:
